The Vaquero Vanguard is an equestrian drill and show competition team started in March 2014, based out of Aubrey, TX. Jodie Newell and Nancy Parks coach the horsemanship aspect of the team, while Jodie's husband James, helps out with the drill show design. The team meets for a few hours once a week to prepare for drill team, Cowboy Dressage, and Parelli Games competitions from Jan through October.
The team members enjoy helping each other and cheering each other on in the good times, and hard times. The team is always looking to grow their "family". New members are always welcome. They are often amazed at how far they have progressed in a year, and would love to share that magic with others. There is something special that happens when you spend a few hours each week practicing on your horse for a common goal with other like minded friends. The two things every horse person needs to progress are a goal and a deadline in which to accomplish that goal. There is no better way to have this happen then with friends!
The team competed in their first competition at the Oklahoma City State Fair in Sept 2014. They were thrilled to receive two second places. They have come such a long way since the beginning, and have shown in many competitions since. Below is their very first debut show video. Their goal for 2016 is to lope a part of the pattern and build from there. In the future they plan to not only be loping the whole pattern, but loping it bridle-less:-). Since Rome was not build in a day, they have lots of practice ahead of them. But anything is possible to those that believe in themselves and their horse!
